Fujii Kaido (1898-1984)

515th Chief Abbot of the Daitoku-ji temple, 22nd Chief Priest of the Daitoku Hoshun-in temple, Chief Priest of the Daitoku-ji Sangen-in sub-temple.
After the world war II, he was, together with Zuigan and Unso, active in the restoration of the Daitoku-ji temple.
He had in-depth knowledge of tea wares, instructed Kyo-yaki (Kyoto ware) potters and was instrumental in the revival of the Edo-period Murasakino-yaki pottery.
He created numerous tea bowls, chashaku (tea scoops) and calligraphy scrolls for the tea ceremony. Within the tea ceremony world, he is one of the most popular chief abbots of the Daitoku-ji temple lineage.
