This tea bowl, known as a "Leaf Temmoku," was produced in the Jizhou kilns of Jiangxi Province during the Southern Song Dynasty (13th century). It exemplifies one of the most celebrated techniques of Jizhou ware, in which an actual leaf is applied to the interior of the bowl and fired directly into the glaze. The organic material of the leaf burns away during firing, leaving behind a delicate fossil-like imprint where the veins and textures are captured in stunning detail beneath the lustrous black glaze. This particular bowl features a beautifully preserved leaf impression that evokes a poetic sense of nature’s fleeting beauty. The exterior is smoothly coated in black glaze, while the foot remains unglazed, exposing the reddish clay typical of Jizhou wares. The condition is excellent, with no visible cracks or chips, and the glaze retains its original brilliance. As a representation of Song-era aesthetics and ceramic ingenuity, this piece holds both artistic and historical significance, valued highly in the context of tea culture and beyond.
