This brush washer is a refined piece from the Kangxi period (1662–1722) of the Qing dynasty, marked "Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi" (Made in the Great Qing, Kangxi period). The vessel features a gently flaring, rounded body resting on a short footring, with the exterior covered in a delicate glaze known as “Peach Blossom Red” (taohuahong you). This glaze is achieved using copper as a colorant under a controlled reduction firing, producing a soft yet vibrant pink hue reminiscent of blossoming peach petals. On this piece, the glaze elegantly transitions into shades of purplish-red and pale green, creating a dynamic and poetic surface. The interior is coated in a contrasting pure white glaze, emphasizing its cleanliness and function. The base bears a finely written six-character underglaze blue Kangxi mark, and is accompanied by period collector’s labels, suggesting a storied provenance. In superb condition with no damage, the piece retains a lustrous glaze that attests to the high craftsmanship of the Kangxi kilns. This brush washer is not only a functional scholar’s item but also a celebrated example of Qing ceramic artistry and aesthetic sophistication.
