This blue and white dragon bowl is a masterpiece from the Chenghua period of the Ming Dynasty (1465-1487), produced at the imperial kilns and exemplifying the delicate and refined craftsmanship characteristic of this era. The exterior is adorned with a gracefully rendered dragon soaring among clouds, harmoniously intertwined with arabesque patterns. The dragons of the Chenghua period are known for their slender and fluid forms, and this piece faithfully follows that distinctive style. The interior features a motif of flying bats, symbolizing good fortune and prosperity. Additionally, the entire bowl is subtly decorated with finely incised patterns, a hallmark of this period’s sophisticated aesthetic. The foot is neatly finished, and the base bears the underglaze blue six-character reign mark "Da Ming Chenghua Nian Zhi," reflecting the imperial quality of the piece. In terms of condition, the bowl shows minimal signs of use over time, with no significant cracks or chips, and is exceptionally well-preserved. Furthermore, it retains a label from a notable collection, providing clear provenance, which adds to its historical and collectible value. Chenghua period blue and white porcelain is exceedingly rare in the market, and exceptional examples such as this are considered museum-quality treasures. This piece is of significant interest to collectors and scholars alike, holding immense historical and artistic value.
