This Japanese black glaze chawan tea bowl is hand built using the traditional tebineri technique rather than wheel throwing. The clay is shaped and formed by hand, resulting in a naturally irregular rim and gentle contours along the body that reflect the artisan’s touch.
A thick black glaze covers the surface, and during kiln firing it develops tonal variations, glaze pooling, and subtle textural details. These firing effects create depth and movement within the monochrome black surface. The foot is left unglazed, revealing the natural clay body and enhancing the contrast between raw clay and dark glaze.
Created through hand building, glazing, and kiln firing, this Japanese Raku style tea bowl is suitable for matcha preparation, tea ceremony practice, and collectors of Japanese ceramic art and traditional chawan pottery.
