This tea bowl is a red Raku chawan believed to be the work of Raku Konyu, the 12th generation master of the Raku family, who was active during the late Edo period. The bowl exhibits a distinctive two-tone glaze, blending earthy red tones with deep black overlays, creating a natural and organic appearance unique to hand-molded Raku ware. The soft contours and thick foot are hallmarks of the Raku tradition, emphasizing the harmony between form and function. The foot bears the impressed seal mark of the artist, and the piece is accompanied by a signed wooden box (tomobako), indicating its authenticity and cultural value within the tea ceremony tradition.
