This is an exquisite tea bowl from the Song dynasty (960–1279), produced at the renowned Jizhou kiln. It is decorated using the rare “leaf-resist” technique, in which real leaves were placed onto the surface before glazing and firing, leaving their detailed imprints behind. The result is a naturalistic and poetic expression of impermanence—a cherished value in both Song aesthetics and the philosophy underlying the tea ceremony. The warm golden tone of the preserved leaf contrasts beautifully with the rich black glaze, creating a visual harmony evocative of autumn landscapes. The exterior is fully covered in dark glaze, and the foot remains unglazed, revealing the fine-grained clay typical of Jizhou ware. The bowl is in excellent condition with no cracks or chips, and its subtle patina adds to its historical charm. This piece is not only a functional vessel but also a refined collector’s item, representing the sophistication of Chinese ceramic art during the Song dynasty.
