Metalwork Artisan Seigoro Kimura
Born: 1949 – Present
Seigoro Kimura, born in 1949, is a metalwork artisan from Niigata. His real name is Bunzo. He is the second generation of the Kimura family of artisans, having inherited the craft from his father, the first-generation Seigoro Kimura, under whom he studied and honed his skills. Influenced by his father, he was immersed in metalwork from a young age.
In the world of tea utensils, attention is often drawn to hanging scrolls and incense containers, but essential items such as water pourers, hanging kettle tools, ash spoons, and fire tongs are also significant tea utensils. Seigoro Kimura meticulously crafts these items with great attention to detail. His works are characterized by simple forms and understated patterns, and some incorporate highly intricate techniques such as zogan (inlay work).
In 1992, he succeeded his father as the second-generation Seigoro Kimura and has since continued to produce new works. For pieces made of pure silver (Nanryo), he also inherited the art name "Seiun", and thus uses two different signatures in his works.
