Kakurezaki Ryuichi (1950- )
Born in Nagasaki Prefecture. After graduating from the Design Department of Osaka University of Arts, he worked in the field of commercial design, but became interested in Bizen ware and studied under Bizen ware creator Iwamoto Shuichi, as well as learned the basics of ceramics at Bizen Togei Center and from '54 on, studied under Isesaki Jun, who was a top class medium-standing creator at the time and is a current living national treasure, before building up an ascending kiln and going independent, leading to where he is today, being chosen and receiving awards at the Japan Kogei Association East China Branch Exhibition, Okayama Prefecture Art Exhibition, Asahi Togei Exhibition and Issuikai Exhibition.
He does not belong to any group in particular, and also receives few awards, but he expresses himself freely focusing on individual exhibitions and the forms of his creations, which are their distinguishing features, lets a viewer think of object pottery or sculptures, contributing to the rapid rise of his popularity in recent years.
