poem
Turned away at the inn I take this unkindness as grace... resting instead beneath the hazy moon and evening blossoms.
Yado kasa nu hito no tsurasa wo nasake ni te oborozukiyo no hana no shitabushi.
Kuroda Koryo (1823-1895)
A ceramic artist active from the late Edo to the Meiji period.
Originally from Kyoto, he began working as an assistant to Ōtagaki Rengetsu in the late Tenpō era (1830–1844). In 1879 (Meiji 12), he established his own kiln and declared himself the second-generation Rengetsu. He used the seal "Koryozan" and produced tea utensils, flower vases, and other ceramic wares.
