In 1821, he inherited the Ueda-Sokoryu tea ceremony school and became the 11th head of the family. He was also a Noh performer. He also invited potters to the school, and Oniwa-yaki pottery was produced actively. He himself had a deep knowledge of the tea ceremony and left elegant works such as chashaku (tea spoon) and Oniwa-yaki tea bowls.
