kyo pottery
He was the eldest son of Rokubey V and succeeded as the sixth Rokubey in 1946.
He studied at the Tokyo School of Art and Crafts and the Tokyo Technical Painting School. In 1927, he exhibited his works in the newly established crafts department at the 8th Imperial Academy art exhibition and was selected.
Afterwards, he received special prizes in 1931 and 1934, and served as a judge. After the war, he exhibited his works at the Japan Fine Arts Exhibition. In 1957, he received the Japan Art Academy Prize for his Genyo Kusamura Kahei vase. In 1962, he became a member of the Japan Art Academy. He also formed a Kyoto ceramics club to nurture young talent, and poured his effort into guiding the next generation as a professor at the Kyoto City University of Arts.
He initially used the traditional Kiyomizu family style, but after the war, he created works overflowing with originality as the sixth Rokubey, such as a new technique with gold and silver colors that showed unprecedented subtle grace, and which received a prize from the Art Academy.
