Kobe dolls, created as souvenirs for foreigners in Kobe City at the end of the Meiji era, are wooden mechanical dolls. Although production ceased during World War II, it was revived in the late 1950s. These dolls are designed to move when the knob on the side of the base box is turned. This particular piece was made by the toy store "Kiyoshimaya," which was located in Motomachi Shopping Street in Kobe. Unfortunately, "Kiyoshimaya" closed its doors after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995. This is a rare item that comes complete with the product, bookmark, and box.
