This is an authentic Japanese Kuro Raku matcha tea bowl (Chawan), representing the deep spiritual aesthetic of the traditional Japanese tea ceremony (Chano-Yu). Crafted using the classic hand-molding technique (Tezukune), the bowl features a subtly asymmetric, rustic silhouette that fits comfortably and warmly into the hands of the practitioner.

The rich, jet-black glaze (Kuro-Raku) offers a profound visual texture, revealing delicate variations in luster and tone—known as "Keshiki" (scenery)—under different lighting conditions. A prominent highlight of this piece is the foot (Kodai), which displays a dynamic, hand-carved spiral pattern (Uzu-kodai) that highlights the raw beauty of the clay flavor (Tsuchiaji). Adjacent to the foot, the traditional "Raku" seal mark is clearly impressed, anchoring the piece in a time-honored ceramic legacy.

This collectible ceramic bowl is an exceptional choice for a main tea bowl (Shu-chawan) during formal gatherings. It invites engaging dialogue (Mondo) between the host and guests regarding its texture, form, and the philosophy of Wabi-Sabi. The item comes with its original wooden storage box (Tomobako), inscribed with "Kuro Raku Chawan," ensuring its provenance and safe keeping. Perfect for practicing chado, serving matcha green tea, or displaying as an exquisite piece of Asian art.
