This is an exceptional Japanese Kuro Raku chawan (black Raku matcha tea bowl), attributed to Raku Konyu, the celebrated 12th head of the historic Raku family in Kyoto.

Adding extraordinary lineage and cultural value to this antique piece, the accompanying wooden box features a hand-brushed inscription (attestation) by Sokuchusai, the 13th generation Grand Master of the prestigious Omotesenke tea school. This box serves as a historical testament that this specific bowl was recognized, used, and highly esteemed by one of the most influential tea masters of the 20th century.

The artistic brilliance of this chawan lies in the majestic hand-formed "Tezukune" shape, showcasing beautiful asymmetric contours and a rich, textured black glaze. The profound visual depth achieved through the overlay of glazes creates a dramatic abstract landscape, with subtle hints of reddish undertones and exposed earthy clay near the foot (Kodai).

For international connoisseurs and tea ceremony practitioners, this bowl offers an incredibly comfortable and spiritual tactile experience. It is a museum-quality masterpiece perfect for an elegant tea gathering, a mindful Zen lifestyle display, or as a centerpiece on your antique collection shelf. Explore the profound world of wabi-sabi with a piece directly touched by the grand heritage of Japanese tea culture.
