Oomoto
A Shinto-based religion organized by Deguchi Onisaburo with Deguchi Nao as the founding prophet towards the end of the Meiji period. Nao's 'ofudesaki' (writings spoke of the restoration of the world by the 'Konjin of the Northeast' and foretold the coming of the 'Miroku no Yo' (Era of Miroku), the arrival of the Divine Kingdom. The group faced suppression twice, once in 1921 (Taisho 10) and again in 1935 (Showa 10), leading to its dissolution the following year. After World War II, the group was revived and established its headquarters in Kameoka, Kyoto Prefecture. Deguchi Torao, husband of the second daughter of the Oomoto leaders Deguchi Onisaburo and the second-generation head priest Deguchi Sumi, exerted a great influence on the religious organization after Onisaburo's passing. At the same time, Torao demonstrated extraordinary talent in painting and pottery. This tea bowl features the painting of Deguchi Torao.
