This exceptional Japanese Shigaraki-style ceramic flower vase (Hanaire) is a hand-crafted masterpiece by the skilled potter Issei of Kamiike kiln. Representing the rugged elegance of Japanese "Wabi-Sabi," this piece was fired in a traditional wood-burning kiln, where the unpredictable movements of flame and ash created a unique work of art.
Artistic Features & Craftsmanship:
-
Yohen (Kiln Transformation): The stunning surface aesthetic is not the result of applied paints or glazes, but of "Yohen," a natural transformation occurring within the extreme heat of the kiln.
-
Beidoro & Hi-iro: You can observe the beautiful glassy, green "Beidoro" (natural ash glaze) drips flowing down the shoulders, contrasted with vibrant "Hi-iro" (scarlet fire marks) that emerge from the iron-rich clay.
-
Organic Texture: The tactile, coarse texture of the clay body evokes the raw power of the earth, a quality highly prized by tea masters and collectors of fine Japanese ceramics.
-
Uzukumaru Form: The robust, "crouching" silhouette provides a grounded presence, making it an ideal focal point for a tea room (Chashitsu) or a minimalist interior display.
-
Unique Artist Mark: The base features a distinctive and charming artist’s stamp resembling a bird, serving as a signature of Kamiike Issei's craftsmanship.
Authenticity for Collectors: In the world of Japanese fine arts, provenance is essential. This vase includes its original Tomobako (signed wooden box), which functions as a traditional certificate of authenticity. This ensures the piece's lineage and protects its value for generations to come. Whether used for seasonal floral arrangements or displayed as a standalone sculpture on a collection shelf, this vase embodies the profound harmony between human hand and natural fire.
