Myochin Hibashi is a traditional type of chopsticks first developed and made by the Myochin family (famous as a family of armorers) who served the Sakai Clan ruling as feudal lords of Himeji Domain in Harima Province in the 19th century (present day Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture). It has been designated as a traditional craft of Hyogo Prefecture.
With over 20 different styles of hibashi, Tsukushi (horsetail), Tsudzumi (hand drum), Warabi (bracken), and Kawakugi are the four signature types. In the present day where demand for hibashi has declined, there are wind chimes that are made using hibashi.
One person who has been taken in by the charm of the hibashi sound is music producer Stevie Wonder.
