This is a Japanese bamboo tea scoop, known as a Chashaku, handcrafted by Sokuchusai (Sokuchusai), the renowned 13th Grand Master of the Omotesenke school of Japanese tea ceremony (Chado). This exceptional piece features the poetic name (Mei) "Naruo."
The accompanying bamboo storage tube (Tsutsu) bears the master's own ink calligraphy reading "Jisaku Chashaku Mei Naruo" (Handcrafted Tea Scoop named Naruo), completed with his authentic stylist signature, known as a Kaō, clearly visible on both the tube and the wooden box lid.
For tea practitioners and collectors worldwide, the Chashaku is one of the most spiritually significant utensils in Chanoyu. During the traditional "Haiken" (utensil viewing) ritual, this tea scoop serves as an extraordinary conversation piece between the host and guests. Crafted directly by the Grand Master, it embodies the core aesthetic values of Wabi-sabi. The physical form showcases a beautiful rhythm in its hand-shaved lines, highlighting the natural node and texture of the bamboo.
The name "Naruo" evokes historical Japanese landscapes and classical poetry, offering a rich cultural narrative for your tea gatherings. This masterpiece allows you to bring the authentic tradition and legacy of Omotesenke directly into your tea room, connecting your guests to centuries of tea history. Perfect for formal tea gatherings, display, or as a centerpiece of a high-end Japanese art collection.
